Thailand Sets General Election for February 2026
Prospective candidates for parliamentary seats can submit their applications between December 27 and 31, according to a public broadcaster. Those interested in party-list positions and the prime ministerial candidate rosters may apply from December 28 to 31.
The dissolution of parliament occurred on Friday, following a request from Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and sanctioned by Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn.
The king issued a royal decree formally dissolving the House of Representatives after Anutin petitioned for new elections to take place within 45 to 60 days.
Thailand’s current legislative body was established following the general election held in May 2023.
The decision to call for early elections comes amid ongoing border tensions with Cambodia, which have resulted in dozens of casualties over recent months.
