French Police Probe Disneyland Wedding with Minor
According to a news agency, a man reserved part of the theme-park resort several weeks ago for a private gathering that reportedly cost about EURO130,000 (USD150,000).
The event was scheduled outside normal opening hours, and the supposed nuptials took place in the early hours of Saturday.
Staff members and security personnel became suspicious when they saw a child in bridal attire who appeared well below the legal age for marriage.
Police were summoned, and the Meaux prosecutor’s office later stated that the “marriage” had been staged.
“So it wasn’t a wedding, but a staged wedding filmed with around a hundred extras. They privatized Disneyland Paris, pretending it was a real wedding,” the magistrate told a news agency.
Four people were initially detained; by Sunday, two remained in custody on suspicion of fraud and money-laundering.
Among them is a 22-year-old man, believed to be British, who allegedly played the groom and arranged the gathering, and a 24-year-old Latvian woman who is also being questioned.
