Houthis state they will attack US naval vessels if they fire at Iran

(MENAFN) The Yemeni Houthi movement declared on June 21 that it would target U.S. naval vessels if the United States launches military actions against Iran.

In a statement broadcast by their media outlet, a Houthi military spokesperson, Yahya Sarea, warned, “If America is involved in the attack and aggression against Iran ... the armed forces (Houthi forces) will target its ships and battleships in the Red Sea.” He emphasized that the group is closely monitoring regional developments and will respond accordingly. “We stand by Iran ... We will not allow America and its criminal entity to implement their plans in the region,” Sarea added.

This announcement comes shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump indicated he had given Iran a maximum of two weeks to return to nuclear negotiations. Meanwhile, Israel has launched airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities and high-ranking military figures, resulting in significant destruction and casualties. Iran has retaliated with missile and drone attacks against Israeli locations.

The Houthis, who govern much of northern Yemen, have been targeting Israel since November 2023 in solidarity with Palestinians amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza.
