IAEA Reports Severe Underground Damage at Iran’s Fordow Nuclear Site

(MENAFN) On Monday, the United Nations nuclear monitoring agency revealed that Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility likely suffered extensive subterranean damage due to the powerful explosives used and the centrifuges’ extreme sensitivity to vibrations.

During a sudden session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi disclosed that visible craters have appeared at the Fordow location, pointing to the deployment of munitions capable of penetrating deep underground. These findings align with assessments previously made by the United States.

"At this time, no one -- including the IAEA -- is in a position to have fully assessed the underground damage at Fordow," Grossi emphasized.

In addition, Grossi reported that the U.S. cruise missile strikes hit several structures at the Esfahan nuclear complex, including facilities involved in uranium conversion. He also noted damage to tunnel entrances used for storing enriched materials at the site.

The Natanz enrichment facility's Fuel Enrichment Plant was targeted by U.S. ground-penetrating weapons, Grossi added.

"Iran has informed the IAEA that there was no increase in off-site radiation levels at all three sites," Grossi confirmed.
