Brazil starts program to fight racism

(MENAFN) Brazil has introduced a new program aimed at addressing racism and advancing racial equality across the country, according to an announcement in the government gazette on Tuesday.

Named "More Equality," the initiative seeks to foster collaboration between government bodies and civil society to protect the rights of people of African descent and indigenous populations, while combating various forms of racial discrimination.

The program is organized around three key pillars: Development, which focuses on training and certifying public officials and community leaders; Structuring, aimed at strengthening and equipping institutions dedicated to racial equality; and strengthening, which provides direct assistance to state and municipal policies related to racial justice.

A cornerstone of the program is the establishment of the House of Racial Equality. This center will operate within the National System for the Promotion of Racial Equality as a hub offering psychological, legal, and social support to victims of racism. It will also work to foster social harmony and increase public awareness of Afro-Brazilian culture and history.
