Shanghai kicks off twenty seventh international film festival
Running until June 22, this year's festival will showcase over 400 films from both China and abroad, screened at venues across Shanghai.
Coinciding with the 130th anniversary of global cinema and the 120th anniversary of Chinese cinema, the festival introduces a special section called "Resonance: A Brief Encounter of Chinese and World Cinema," designed to highlight the exchange and mutual development of cinematic traditions between China and the wider world.
The main competition will feature a dozen films from across Asia, Europe, and Latin America, with the jury headed by acclaimed Italian filmmaker Giuseppe Tornatore.
In addition to the main events, SIFF will also host Belt and Road Film Week and Sci-fi Film Week, expanding its cultural footprint.
Established in 1993, the festival has grown into a major international event, reflecting Shanghai's growing role as a global cultural capital and China’s increasingly influential film industry.
