Pakistan’s PM Demands Iran-Israel Ceasefire
(MENAFN) Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged urgent international intervention on Wednesday to secure an immediate ceasefire between Iran and Israel, cautioning that any further escalation would harm both regional stability and global peace.
Speaking during a Cabinet session in Islamabad, Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s steadfast support for Tehran while condemning what he described as Israel’s “naked” aggression against Iran, according to state-run Pakistan Television.
His statements preceded a significant diplomatic meeting, with Pakistan’s Army Chief, Gen. Asim Munir, set to hold talks with US President Donald Trump at the White House later that day.
Sharif revealed that he had already been in contact with the Iranian president, discussing the rapidly evolving conflict and reaffirming Pakistan’s solidarity with Iran.
Previously, Islamabad had voiced support for Tehran’s right to defend itself against Israeli attacks.
In addition to Iran, Sharif strongly denounced ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza, describing Tel Aviv’s actions as a campaign of “brutality.”
Tensions across the region escalated sharply after Israel launched airstrikes last Friday targeting multiple Iranian locations, including military and nuclear facilities. Tehran responded with missile strikes of its own.
Since the outset of these hostilities, at least 585 individuals have lost their lives and 1,326 have been wounded in the Israeli assaults on Iran.
Conversely, Iranian missile attacks have resulted in at least 24 deaths and hundreds of injuries within Israel, according to Israeli officials.
