Erdogan Supports TRNC's Full Integration into Turkic States Organization

(MENAFN) Turkish Leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized on Wednesday that the Turkic world remains “incomplete” without the involvement of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).

Speaking at an informal gathering of the OTS in Budapest, Hungary’s capital, Erdogan stressed that the symbolic unity of the Turkic nations cannot be fully realized without TRNC’s inclusion.

Erdogan highlighted the significance of a recent move taken during the summit, saying: “We believe the Turkic world family photo will always be incomplete without the presence of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.”

He went on to describe the summit’s decision to grant TRNC observer membership in the Turkic Academy as a highly meaningful step forward.

Expressing hope for further progress, he added, “I hope that in the not-too-distant future, we will see the day when the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is accepted as a full member of our organization.”

The TRNC attained observer status in the OTS during the Samarkand Summit held in November 2022.

This development marked a significant milestone for the TRNC in its relationship with the broader Turkic community.

Reflecting on the broader journey of the organization, Erdogan acknowledged the challenges the OTS has faced: "We (OTS) have overcome many difficulties, prejudices and obstacles,” he said.

Despite the remaining challenges, he conveyed confidence in the collective strength of member states, stating: “Of course, there is still a long road ahead, but I have no doubt we will reach our goals together with you, my brothers and sisters.”

The Turkish leader also addressed the strategic relevance of the Middle Corridor, describing it as a crucial link between the East and West.

He called for enhanced unity and cooperation within the organization to ensure the success of this transport and trade route.

Turning to past and present crises in various regions, Erdogan drew attention to the suffering caused by historical and ongoing conflicts.

He remarked: "Tragedies that took place in the past in Cyprus, Karabakh, Bosnia, and today in Gaza remind us that we must also consider what lies beyond our borders," underlining the importance of remaining mindful of regional and global instability.
