Israeli airstrike targets hospital in Gaza, Hamas politburo member reported dead
Palestinian medical sources and eyewitnesses reported that an Israeli drone aimed at the hospital's emergency building, specifically the surgery department, with missiles, triggering a significant fire.
Medical personnel reported the recovery of five bodies, including Barhoum's, and reported several injuries, some critical.
Gaza-based health officials condemned the attack, stating, "The Israeli army targeted the surgery building inside the Nasser Medical Complex a short while ago, which housed many patients and wounded, and a large fire broke out there."
Soon after the attack, Hamas confirmed Barhoum's death, stating that he was receiving medical treatment in a hospital ward when the strike hit the hospital.
The Israeli military acknowledged conducting an operation at the Nasser Hospital compound, asserting they targeted a Hamas official.
