China, Japan hold high-level talks, aiming to bolster bilateral relations
A key meeting involved Wang Yi and Masataka Okano, the secretary-general of Japan's National Security Secretariat. Their discussions centered on the practical implementation of agreements previously reached by the leaders of both nations, as well as broader strategies for enhancing overall bilateral relations.
According to local media reports, both sides committed to maintaining and expanding high-level diplomatic dialogue as a crucial mechanism for ongoing communication.
Prior to the Sunday meetings, Wang Yi and Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya presided the sixth China-Japan High-Level Economic Dialogue on Saturday. This dialogue resulted in the identification of 20 key areas of consensus for future cooperation. These areas span a broad spectrum, including the digital economy, energy conservation, environmental protection, green trade, as well as the provision of elderly care services.
Throughout the economic dialogue, Wang Yi also stated, "Negotiations for the China-Japan-Republic of Korea Free Trade Agreement should be resumed and the process of establishing an Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area should be advanced."
