Authorities arrest suspect in attempt to set hijabi woman ablaze in Canada
Durham Regional Police detailed the incident stating, “(She) was in the library studying when she was approached by an unknown female.” The police continued, “The female began yelling profanities at the victim and throwing objects at her head.”
“The suspect then tried to remove the victim’s hijab, while pouring an unknown liquid on it. The suspect then grabbed a lighter and attempted to light the hijab on fire,” the police added.
The victim's screams alerted library security, who intervened. The suspect escaped the scene but was apprehended by police a few hours later.
The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) expressed deep concern over the attack, stating they were "horrified" by the incident.
